The short version: Maybe this is a silly question, but I'm wondering if anyone can give me any pointers or tips as to how close I can drop a trap next to a mob that is already trapped so that it catches the mob as soon as the first trap breaks, without putting it so close to the mob that it procs without giving any benefit. Personally, I use BW every time it's up regardless of soloing or instancing. Of course, in a group, a lot of this depends on the pull and waiting for our Pally or Tank...

I kite the zombies at Gluth every time, solo with 1 healer. Just run circles around your frost trap, drop one whenever it's off cooldown, use disengage whenever there's zombies too close. Use concussive to stop zombies from getting outside of the pack, and aggro them with or whatever else you have.
